Watch as attorney Brett Leitner of Parker Waichman describes the 3 common areas his law firm continues to encounter when dealing with nursing home abuse cases.
Although any injury to a loved one in a nursing home is serious and needs to be addressed, we’ve noticed that the majority of all injuries tend to fall into 3 typical areas. The first of these is bedsores. A very common problem is a condition that develops on a patient when they are not constantly repositioned to keep pressure off their body. If you were to lie in your bed for days, never moving, you would develop these sores as well. The nursing staff works to prevent such sores from occurring. Another typical injury is a fracture. Elderly people are already at a great risk for slips and falls, so paying attention to their needs is extremely important.
Nursing homes usually provide items like non-slip flooring and safety rails to help prevent the patients being hurt. Even with the best safety equipment in place, the nursing staff has to be alert and aware to the patients’ needs. Inattentive staff is our third most common issue when dealing with nursing home abuse cases. There are simply too many accidents that can all be explained by a staff member not caring about the resident. Their lack of attentiveness and care of patient safety has resulted in too many injuries to not be held liable. Watch this video now to learn more.
